CEO of Uber and Co-Founder of Aurora Innovation to Focus on Ongoing Responsibilities
According to a recent regulatory filing, Dara Khosrowshahi is resigning from the board of autonomous vehicle technology company Aurora Innovation, citing a desire to focus on his ongoing responsibilities as CEO of Uber and reduce external board commitments.
Effective Date of Resignation
Khosrowshahi’s resignation was effective as of Tuesday, marking the end of his tenure on Aurora’s board. The departure comes just weeks after Nolan Shenai, Aurora’s general counsel, shared his intention to step down effective January 6, 2025.
Background and Relationship with Aurora
Khosrowshahi joined Aurora’s board in 2020 as part of a deal between Uber and Aurora Innovation. At the time, Uber offloaded its self-driving unit, Uber ATG, to Aurora in exchange for a 26% stake in the combined company. Through this deal, Uber also invested $400 million into Aurora.
The relationship between Uber and Aurora has been significant, with both companies maintaining connections through various partnerships. In June, Uber and Aurora announced a multi-year collaboration to put trucks powered by Aurora’s technology on the Uber Freight network.
Shailen Bhatt to Replace Khosrowshahi
To fill the vacant seat on Aurora’s board, Shailen Bhatt, senior vice president and chief operating officer for AtkinsRéalis, will join the company. Bhatt has a background working for the Federal Highway Administration, bringing a wealth of experience in transportation policy and regulation.
Recent Executive Departure at Aurora
Ossa Fisher, Aurora’s president, will take over Nolan Shenai’s responsibilities while the company considers his replacement. This latest development marks another significant change within Aurora’s leadership team.
